Updated: May 26, 2019
As 2019 approaches the halfway point, entrepreneurs, business owners and creatives should be thinking about ways that they can surge and close the year out successfully. Social media has played a huge role in the success of small business and influencer growth this year, and if it hasn’t for you, you really need to pay attention and hash out a digital marketing strategy ASAP.
According to their annual Social Media Marketing Report, Social Media Examiner is reporting that a significant 93% of all marketers indicated that Social Media efforts have generated more exposure and engagement for their businesses. Increased traffic to their websites was the second major benefit, with 87% reporting positive results. These two benefits alone have remained in the top two spots for the last 5 years.
If you have any type of business, you need to be on social media. However, just having a page or profile isn’t enough, you really need to engage your audience and build a community around your brand. How do you do this? I’ve got 5 tips to get you started.
1. Get Personal
Putting a real, human face to a business or brand is an incredibly effective way to build a community and loyalty. Putting a face to your business gives you a human element that people can automatically relate to. Studies have shown that putting a face to your brand naturally garners more trust and allows you to build stronger relationships.
A quick way to humanize your business is by personal branding the business owner or a high-level leader in your company. Build a strategy that includes guest blogging, podcasting, live video chats and community meetups. Businesses that continue to embrace a personal marketing strategy in 2019 will have a distinct advantage over businesses that hide behind a logo.
2. Develop Long-Form Content
Producing and posting long-form content is a great way to build up your SEO rankings with the major search engines. In 2019 we are seeing more and more content publishers require guest bloggers and posters to submit articles with a minimum of 1,000 words or more.
Content is king and the algorithms of Google and Bing are tweaked to reward long-form content over short little blurbs. As 2019 continues you will see more and more businesses and influencers embracing a long-form content strategy. So, if you’re not getting the type of SEO results that you're used to, go long and add more in-depth articles, how to videos and step-by-step instructional content to your strategy. This will not only attract more engagement, but it will also give the search engines a reason to rank your content higher in the results.
3. Cater to Wants & Needs
Analytics has shown us that 2019 is the year of personalization in the marketing space. Today’s customers are smart, and they’ve been programmed to block out the generic run of the mill content and advertising. Today’s consumer wants brands and businesses to tailor special offers and discounts to their wants and needs.
This shift in consumer thinking provides an incredible opportunity for the savvy, social media marketer. Consider targeted advertising and retargeting campaigns on the major social media channels. Facebook has an incredibly robust advertising engine that allows you to get extremely specific and reach those people with an affordable budget.

4. Lights, Camera, Action
According to an independent study conducted by Wyzowl, 97% of marketers say that video has helped increase user understanding of their products or services. 76% reported seeing an increase in web traffic and sales.
2019 will continue to see a huge emergence and increase of Live-streaming video. If this growth continues Live-Streaming will count for 82% of all internet traffic by the year 2020. Video is a great way to work on your personal branding (tip #1). Video allows prospects, leads and customers to get to know who you are and how you operate.
#5 Pay to Play
The truth is, if you want to get more exposure, you’re going to have to pay to advertise on the top social media platforms. The average reach for a Facebook post in 2018 was a staggering 6% of your audience.
In 2019 many marketers, small business owners and influencers are reporting less than that. Organic reach is diminishing on social media as these platforms see a boom in revenue from advertising. You will need to invest in sponsored posts, boosted posts and social media ads if you want to stay in front of your target market.
Fortunately, though, social media advertising doesn’t have to be expensive. If optimized and niched down correctly, you will be able to reach an incredible number of new prospects for pennies per engagement. Make social media advertising a priority in 2019 and you’ll reap the rewards and close the year out strong.
One thing you can always count on is that social media is an ever-changing landscape. As you gain broader awareness and understanding of how your strategies perform, this will allow you to make changes and stay ahead of the competition. Following trends isn’t a guarantee, before you decide to go all in do your homework. Remain consistent and true to your brand, and you’ll see results in no time.
